Stryped!Posted by Ron on October 1, 2009
To commemorate the band Stryper's 25th Anniversary, I wanted to update the band cartoon that I did back in 2005 for their Reborn tour. I updated their outfits to the new ones they're wearing during their current tour as well as improve on the original character design. I've tweaked these since these first passes and will probably tweak them again before I'm finished but wanted to let you see where I was with them so far. I'm under some pressure because I want to have the guys sign them when I see them in Chicago on Sunday. I'm also working on finding a way to make them available to purchase. I'll post that info when I know more.
Updated 10/12: I finished the individual band members cartoons in time to take them to Chicago for the band to sign. They all seemed to like them but bass player Tim Gaines actually shook my hand and told me that it looked great. What was funny is that I took a bunch of the old print along to give away at the Meet and Greet and quite a lot of the people going up to meet the band were have them signed. I was the only one with the new one however. :)
For those interested, while I'm still working on another deal, the print as shown below (as well as a couple variations) are now available via PayPal at stryperonline.com.

After 20 long years, former KISS guitarist Ace Frehley is back with a brand new solo album entitled Anomaly. Like Gib, I bought my copy on the way into work this morning. Unlike Gib, I popped the CD in immediately and have to say that Ace has most certainly delivered the goods. Not only are there classic Ace riffs and rock tunes aplenty but there are a few surprises where he branches out a bit musically - and, in most cases, it works. If you're an Ace or KISS fan, you won't be disappointed. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to play with my cool pyramid! Maybe I'll wear it like a hat today at work...

Well, this is the week all The Beatles fans have been waiting for. Not only is their entire back catalog being rereleased in remastered versions (both Stereo and Mono) but The Beatles Rock Band is being released as well. As far as today's comic, I personally have nothing against Ringo but obviously opinionated Marshall does. Sometimes I just have to shake my head at that amp...

New Toon It Up as I try to play catch up with all the recent news. This one refers back to Aerosmith lead vocalist Steven Tyler's fall off the stage at a show that ultimately caused the band to cancel the rest of their tour. Now you know who's really to blame...

I've held off doing a Michael Jackson strip since his death back in June so as not to offend any of his mourners. Maybe I should have waited longer...

This is a project I'm getting closer to finishing up. It's the members of 80's Rock Group Stryper as superheroes that will, hopefully, find it's way onto a T-shirt! It's just a quickly inked and colored draft to get a feel for the pencil sketches that I had done. I've still got quite a bit more tweaking to do but, as I said, it's getting closer. After that it's on to pencilling a short story called "Needs" for the upcoming Indy Webcomics Anthology. And stay TOONed, for tomorrow I'll be posting another new Toon It Up comic. Busy, busy, busyyyyy!
Yes, it's the moment you've all been waiting for (well, at least two of you...): The Return of Toon It Up! I'm not sure yet what the future holds for Gib, Marshall, Mike and the rest of the gang as I'm juggling a few other projects right now as well, but I'll do my best to keep things coming at you at a steady pace. By the way, if you have no clue what's going on, you can check out the last comic to bring you up to date. Enjoy and see you next week!
